The journey with lipedema is long and difficult...A sufferer tends to see the problems and challenges rather than the achievements. That should change now! Find out here which things you should be proud of.
Going through life with the necessary optimism is not easy, especially when you are struggling with a chronic illness. Lipedema is still not considered curable, the course of the disease and symptoms vary and the therapy requires a lot of self-management, both physically and mentally. This sounds like a bad prospect and can quickly turn into general frustration. Many sufferers say that the daily pain and the resulting reduced quality of life can quickly lead to mental suffering. However, in addition to the daily hurdles, it is also worth looking at what you have already achieved and what you can be proud of.
The first point at which you can learn to rebuild yourself is the beginning, the path to the first diagnosis. You have realized that something is wrong with your body and you have decided to get help. You may have met with little understanding at first. Because many doctors are still unfamiliar with the clinical picture of lipedema, they tend to dismiss it and advise you to diet or exercise more.
But it's not just doctors who may not take you seriously; there may also be problems or a lack of understanding from family and friends because they don't know the symptoms of lipedema and confuse it with being overweight. But it helps to remember the moment when you were first diagnosed.
People with lipedema report feeling a great sense of relief when they were first diagnosed, because it gave them clarity and made them feel taken seriously. It's no longer "I'm too fat and need to diet," but "I have a disease that causes me to gain weight uncontrollably. You were helped, and you knew how to deal with it better, instead of despairing over diets that barely helped. So you can be proud that you took the right path.
No matter how much progress you have made with the therapy so far: with the knowledge about your illness and the necessary support from your doctor, you are already two steps further than before the diagnosis. You are using the resources you have been given to cope with your daily symptoms as best you can. This shows an incredible amount of strength and sincerity.
It's also important to remember that you are coping with your therapy in addition to all the other hurdles of everyday life. Whether it's long hours of physical work, leisure activities or, in some cases, being a mother: lipedema accompanies a sufferer everywhere. It should therefore make you extremely proud that you are trying to carry on with your routine as best you can and believe that your symptoms will soon improve.
As mentioned above, lipedema is a little known and little researched condition that is often confused with obesity. That's why we at LipoCheck stand for the necessary education and better medical support for those affected. But you are also making an important contribution to raising awareness by informing yourself and others about this disease. In doing so, you are not only helping yourself, but you are also making a contribution to society and helping other women with lipoedema who do not yet know how to deal with it. You can be proud of how far you have come toward a better future for women's health.
On the journey with lipedema, nothing feels better than knowing that you are not alone. About 10% of women worldwide are affected, so statistically speaking, another lipoedema patient is not far from you. So, in addition to getting medical support from your doctor, it can be helpful to talk to other people with lipoedema.
You can ask how others are coping with their symptoms, what obstacles they face in their daily lives, and how they overcome them. By sharing and encouraging each other, women can become more accepting and optimistic about their disease. With this in mind, put our motto "Stronger Together" into practice!
